Developmental coaching is a process of movement from one's current inner space and external circumstances to an expanded level of being and functioning, and to accompishment of the intended goals. While we can relatively easily observe existing situations the client desires to transform, his or her inner space is not that easily visible. To make that more visible, we use a set of assessment tools that measure their levels of development along cognitive, emotional and spiritual lines. In addition, the Enneagram personality type assessment provides a horizontal dimension adding to the vertical measurements, painting a more comprehensive picture of the way the client thinks, feels and makes sense and provides meaning to the events in their lives.
Our social-emotional development defines how we make meaning of events and respond emotionally to situations in our lives. Our response is based on our perceptions about ourselves, other people and the world.
The assessment is carried out through a semi-structured "subject-object" interview lasting about an hour. The interview is recorded, transcribed and reviewed for sections that reveal how the client makes meaning of the events and situations in their live. The inteview score is then discussed with the client, and a coaching strategy is developed based on the client's goals and their development stage.
Cognitive development determines how we make sense of the world, how much we are aware of, how fluidly, systemically, and comprehensively we think, and how much complexity we can manage. We progress from reactive to logical to dialectic thinking, which sees the world as dynamic and constantly changing, rather than static. Dialectic thinking develops our ability to create flexible and creative solutions and responses to problem situations, and to effectively adjust our responses as situations evolve

In this model, spiritual intelligence is defined as
“The ability to behave with Wisdom and Compassion while maintaining inner and outer peace (equanimity) regardless of the circumstances.”
We use the SQ21 instrument, developed by Deep Change, Inc. to measure our capacity in 21 skills grouped in to four quadrants. In the online assessment, you answer a series of questions, and receive a 20 page report with scores on each skill. The assessment includes an hour long coaching session to review the report and discuss methods to develop the capacities of interest to the client.
The Enneagram is a system of nine personality types that combines traditional wisdom and modern psychology into a powerful tool for understanding ourselves and the people in our lives. The Enneagram describes the strengths and potentials of each personality type as well as its problems. All personality types are equal, and the highs and lows of human development can be found in every type. While most people know the Enneagram as a profound system of personal or spiritual growth, in recent years it also has been adapted for use in the classroom and in business. In addition to providing crucial “people skills,” the Enneagram supports self-awareness, good decision-making and continual learning, which is vital for success in today’s workplace.
Many Enneagram assessment tools are available on-line, including basic ones for free. We use a simple self assessment where the client selects the descriptions they feel are the best match for them.
This assessment includes an hour long coaching session to review the accuracy of their conclusions, and to discuss developmental issues specific to the client's personality type.
